About the event
Lemon Curd has been set up by Winchester poet Beth Phillips to give young creatives a platform to express themselves. The first issue, Protest, is packed with poetry, flash fiction, short stories, photography and artwork, all confronting the issues of today. On May 26th several Lemon Curd contributors, including myself, will be performing our pieces, and answering questions about our work, at a launch event in Winchester. Here's an extract of my submission, Job Man, to give you a flavour of what you can expect from Lemon Curd:

Job man looks at me, weighing me with whisky-ice eyes, then murmur-writes
“Un-em-ployed.”
I laugh- and when he asks me why I say,
“Because you are right, sir! One is not ‘employed’ as a poet.
Poems are born, lived through and grown;
they force you to mop up their line breaks and speak their meter
until, at last, your clocks become deer
and you release them.
THAT is to write poetry! And to live as a poet?
Well..."
