Spoken Word and Performance

For me, one of the most crucial impacts poetry has  is  to give me confidence. When I embarked on my BA, reading my work out in class had me on the verge of tears. Fast forward two years and I was the most-requested poet for a headline slot at The Railway Inn's Poetry Platform New Years Showcase.

Below are a selection of my performances, including some from that showcase, and my spoken word productions in collaboration with Splendid Fred Records.

If you are interested in seeing more of my work, you can read a selection of my poems here.

If you are interested in seeing me perform live, you can check a list of my upcoming events, and please get in touch for bookings and other enquiries.

Performance
Someday I'll Love Lawrence Nicholas

A performance of my poem, Someday I'll Love Lawrence Nicholas at The Railway Inn's New Year Special. Someday' is a prime example of what poetry has brought to my life. By approaching my past self a separate character, I was able to come to terms with one of my darkest times and turn it into one of my strongest performance pieces.

When I tell people I am a poet

An improvised poem about what poetry means to me, and about what happens when I tell people, "I am a poet." This was a poem I had been trying to write, with little success. So, I got up on stage armed only with the title and let the words flow out of me.

Spoken Word Production

Eulogy

Working with Splendid Fred on Eulogy was a unique experience, and the first time I became a published poet. I responded creatively to tracks from Splendid Fred's This Changes Everything, an album highlighting issues around climate change.

Much of my work is confessional, but immersing myself in music, and writing reaction poetry  from the experience, allowed me to push my poetic in an entirely new direction.
